Mongo Memories
quietxcoastline (http://quietxcoastline.livejournal.com/) has this memory about the Mongo Bat:
Back in the day, my block used to be pretty awesome. All the neighborhood kids would play outside until midnight (which was really late back then) & get together to play games such as MONGO BAT
This reminds me of some of the fun memories I had of playing Mongo. The most notable one of which involved almost the whole family on an otherwise lazy Sunday. After Sunday dinner, while we were all lying around rubbing our stomachs, I decided to take the kids out to play Mongo in the back yard. Meanwhile, the rest of the extended family sat inside the living room watching us out the sliding glass door. Soon, people started filtering outside to join the game. Before the afternoon was over, the whole family (except Gram), including moms and dads, uncles and aunts, sisters, brothers, kids, and cousins, was outside crazily running around the backyard, hitting the ball, beaning each other with the ball, and generally having a good time. I sure miss my Mongo bat.
